JOB OVERVIEW
We are seeking a talented and experienced WordPress Developer to join our team on a contact-basis for 3 months, with an immediate start. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in WordPress development, PHP, and front-end technologies, with a keen eye for detail and a passion for delivering high-quality, well-optimised websites. We are looking for an individual with a track record of working with both themes and plugins, troubleshooting issues, and contributing to projects in a fast-paced environment. You will be working closely on projects with our Head of Digital Development.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and maintain WordPress websites with a strong focus on performance, user experience, and best practices.
- Write clean, efficient, and well-commented code to ensure maintainability and readability.
- Extend and customise WordPress themes and plugins to meet client specifications.
- Implement and manage page templates, widgets, and other custom elements using Elementor.
- Collaborate with the team to troubleshoot and resolve bugs and issues in a timely manner.
- Assist the external team that handles our website maintenance, performing website spot-checks, responding to and resolving issues on an ongoing basis.
- Work with front-end technologies including HTML, SCSS/SASS, and JavaScript to enhance the functionality and appearance of websites.
- Ensure all code adheres to coding standards and is optimised for speed and SEO.
- Test and optimise websites across browsers and devices.
- Integrate third-party APIs as required and ensure seamless communication between external systems and the website.
- Manage and prioritise multiple projects within a fast-paced agency environment, ensuring deadlines are met and client expectations are exceeded.
- Maintain excellent verbal and written communication as well as interpersonal skills.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest tools and technologies.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- 3+ years of experience working with WordPress, developing and maintaining websites.
- 3+ years of experience working with PHP.
- Strong knowledge of WordPress theme and plugin architecture, with demonstrable experience extending and customising both.
- Experience using Advanced Custom Fields (ACF) or similar data fields for creating custom templates.
- Experience writing clean, well-commented, and efficient code that follows best practices.
- A good understanding of HTML, SCSS/SASS, and JavaScript to ensure high-quality front-end development.
- Hands-on experience with Elementor, including building and customising page templates and widgets.
- Experience with version control, including Git.
- Experience working in a support environment, troubleshooting and resolving bugs, and providing solutions in a timely manner.
- Familiarity with working with APIs and integrating them into WordPress sites is a plus.
- Experience in an agency environment, managing multiple projects simultaneously, is an advantage.
- Ability to work independently to deadlines, but also part of a collaborative team.
- Resourcefulness and the ability to demonstrate initiative and troubleshoot complex problems.
- Bachelor’s or higher degree (or equivalent training) in a relevant field.
DESIRABLE SKILLS
- Familiarity with website optimisation tools and techniques for improving page load speeds and overall website performance.
- Experience with other page builders and customisation frameworks.
- Basic understanding of security best practices for WordPress.
- Experience working with Shopify / other ecommerce platforms.
